For La Salmantina, it all started in 1933 in La Vellés, a small town of Salamanca and the capital of the region of the Armuña. Originally, they were a small vegetable wholesale warehouse selling only bulk lentils and chickpeas: La Armunya lentils, pedrosillano chickpeas and Fuentesaúco chickpeas.

Today, these three varieties are protected by Denominación de Origen, an official certification of the product's quality and authenticity. The regulatory boards of La Armunya lentils, Pedrosillo chickpeas, and Fuentesaúco garbanzos guarantee the quality and origin of the legumes of this brand which has become so popular.

Over the years La Salmantina has added new products such as Lentil Pardina from Tierra de Campos, Beluga Lentils, Beans of Tolosa, Asturian Fabes and countless other delights of this wonderful land for growing vegetables.

    Asturian Fabes with Clams
The Asturian fabes are some of the best beans that can be found: they're large, buttery, and have a thin skin. The combination of the fresh texture of clams with the creamy softness of the beans is quite simply divine.
    Asturian Fabada
There's nothing better in a great family reunion than an enormous bowl of Asturian fabada. It's not really a tapa—as a matter of fact, served as it is in Mieres, it's actually closer to the exact opposite: a large, ample dish, a stew from another era when men slaved away for hours in the mines and the fabada was the perfect way to replenish their energy at the end of the day.
Legumes feature heavily in the Spanish kitchen, especially in homemade food.
