Coto de Gomariz is a white Ribeiro with a traditional blending of indigenous Galician varieties, of which Treixadura is the most important.

This is a flagship wine of an absolutely avant-garde winery where they try to give personality to their wines by preserving the soil minerals.

Wine tasting:

Bright yellow-gold. Ripe pear and nectarine aromas are complicated by anise, chamomile and smoky minerals. Rich and smooth in texture, offering gently sweet orchard fruit and melon flavors enlivened by dusty minerals. The mineral quality adds grip to the long, gently chewy finish. We like this wine's combination of depth and energy.

Varieties: 70% treixadura, 15% godello, 10% albarino and 5% loureira: 

Grape Origin: Selected grapes from the 27 hectares belonging to the property

Soils: Shale (xistos), sand and clay.

Orography: Terraces and smoth slopes

Appellation: Valle del Avia - D.O. Ribeiro

Preparation

These grapes are hand-selected at the vineyards, placed in 18kg boxes and manually sorted on a special selection table. They are statically destemmed and fermented at a controlled temperature, stored in a tank until May and then in the bottle for at least another month before it finds its way to the market.

The Winery:

Coto de Gomariz prepares young, high expression, vintage white wines in oak casks as well as cask-fermented wines.They all are personal works of art that express the complexity of each vineyard owned by the winery.

These robust and delicate wines command both structure and elegance. The young wines are silky with a dense texture and sharp, ripe fruit flavours. Other characteristics include harmony in the toasting, tannins, and passarillage in the cask fermented wines. The red vintages use black fruit and quercetin and ripe tannins.

In order to preserve quality, the best grape selection, and rigorous control over the preparation, at Coto de Gomariz no more than 200.000 bottles are ever produced per year.
