Information:

The  natural sea spaghetti from Porto Muiños is a composition of edible seaweed from the Galician estuaries that, once rehydrated, you can incorporate into your recipes. A seaweed from the cold waters of the Atlantic, it looks like an elongated ribbon and reaches up to two meters in length. It has an ocher color and is found primarily in rough and choppy depths. It gets its name from its peculiar resemblance to the pasta.

Nutritional value:

High in protein and fiber and low in fat. Does not contain sugar.

Very rich in vitamin B9 (folic acid). Source of vitamins A, B1 and E.

Minerals: Iodine (I), calcium (Ca), phosphorus (P), magnesium (Mg) and source of iron (Fe)

Ingredients: sea spaghetti (Himanthalia Elongata), organically produced.

Packaging: cardboard package.

Weight: Net Weight 25 gr

Culinary uses:

Toasted: If baked and crushed in a mortar, it can be a very versatile condiment. A good alternative is to coat and fry it in oil to serve as an appetizer.

Boiled: It is a good companion for meat or to form a bed for fish. In vegetable dishes, croquettes, rice and pasta it is a very original ingredient for an entirely different touch. It also gives an innovative twist to soups, scrambled eggs, and canapés.


Preparation:

Rehydration: Soak in water with a little course salt for 10 minutes. When rehydrated, it will expand to 4 times its dry weight.

Cooking time: 5 minutes

Dried Seaweed

Dried Seaweed has to be soaked in water before cooking and it increases considerably in weight after soaking (see attached document).

Use cold water and a pinch of salt to soak seaweed. It's important to leave the seaweed soaking the right amount of time; too long and it would lose its texture.

When cooking a recipe with lots of water, such as stews or soups, dried Seaweed can be incorporated directly, as it will soak as it cooks.

The water used to soak seaweed can be used to cook and flavor other dishes.

Where does seaweed grow and how is it harvested?

The seaweed from PORTO-MUÍÑOS grows on rocks covered by the cold, clean water of the Atlantic Ocean. The harvesting is done by divers, who select and cut the best specimens in the most appropriate season for each species. The seaweed is then processed immediately.
